When the professionals are called in

Where to begin?  Painting has been an absolute nightmare.  Lucky for us it is now a nightmare for the professionals.  Best phone call we ever made.  Remember when Jace gave it a good try upstairs?  Well, apparently we were sold the wrong primer.  You can almost peel the paint off the doors in one sheet.  The paint store has graciously offered to pay to have the doors and beams (yes, Dad I painted all the beams) redone.  Sweet of them, don't you think?

And a funny thing about the cabinet paint color.  I racked my brain.  I carried a folder full of paint swatches around in my car for months.  I studied blogs and magazines, looking for the perfect green.  First is was avocado green.  Then dark teal green.  Nothing felt right.  Then I found it.  Woodsmoke green.  It was gray-green and it felt good - it felt familiar.  Well it wasn't until I came home after purchasing 5 gallons of very expensive cabinet paint that I figured it out.  Bingo!  It is almost exactly the same color as my cabinets in my downtown house I'm living in!  What?  How could I have done that?  It's not that I don't like the color because I do but I was definately trying for something different in Mi Casa.  Sheesh.  I've lost it.  And it could have something to do with these little people right here:

My 2nd grader is now bigger than my 4th grader
This summer was a bit rough.  Stressful and busy.  These poor little people.  Yesterday was the first day of school.  It was the first school year that my kids weren't the new kids.  Jace and I felt pretty good about that and high fived each other.  Yesterday was a great day for both of them.  And the best day of my life.  I rekindled my relationship with this little guy:

And my baby took 2 naps.  In her crib.  This is huge people!  And I actually accomplished something.  I set up our new wireless printer.  It took me all day.  But I did it.  I haven't felt this good about an accomplishment since.....since....last May.

Perhaps I should have waited to pick out paint colors until yesterday.

The fog is lifting.  I can feel it.  I'm going to be a new, home designing, task tackling woman.

p.s.  The painters are promising to get some of that dark navy blue up on the walls today.  Can't wait to show you.

  3. i approve the color of the cabinets:) "green" green can sometimes backfire because if you wanna throw any red in there you risk the christmas factor coming in:) this is a totally neutral color and a really clam pretty one. haha sorry i feel funny finally leaving a comment! but i love watching your home renovations.

  4. I love the cabinet color! Awesome choice!
I am so curious what brand the primer was. I had a similar experience with a primer that I used on paneling years ago.... it was "Kilz" brand. After using that primer... all our paint peeled off in big strips. I was heartbroken, and honestly a bit bent out of shape.
I learned from a master woodworker about "Zinsser" products, and have ONLY used 'Zinsser" every since that time.
Congrats on getting the 'fog' to lift :)
I know that feeling well :)
Keep up the awesome work! I can just see that kitchen decorated for Fall :)
